The toothless grin and the twinkle in the eye tells the story that this old prospector was one of the lucky ones that found his fortune in the streams of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. His excitement is shared by his little companion as he showers his whiskered friend with devoted kisses.
When seeking inspiration for this piece I looked at many old photos of prospectors and found a number of them actually had their dogs in the photo with them. I realized that a dog is a perfect companion as he is faithful but is also serves as added protection. I found it interesting that a number of dogs actually had little packs and carried their share of the load as they made the journey to find the gold.
This piece is the 3rd in a series of prospector pieces and I hope you enjoyed it. Prints are available on my Fine Art America site if you are interested just click the "ORDER PRINTS" button on the right.
